Following extensive negotiations over the past four months, we are very pleased to announce that from December 1st 2012, Arrows Self Storage will become part of the Betterstore group, and will be trading as Storage King in Bletchley, Milton Keynes. The front desk staff from Arrows, Ian, Dave and David, will be staying with the new company. Storage King have announced the takeover to the trade press, and now it is official….

Storage King will be putting some much needed investment into the buildings and upgrading the facilities over the next year or so. We hope all our customers will see minimal change, and continue to enjoy both the excellent prices and service they have always received from Arrows in the past.

Here at Arrows Self Storage we take the security of your items seriously and take all the necessary precautions to provide the best possible protection for your storage unit. We have 24/7 security. Every room is fitted with an alarm that is controlled by a unique pin of your choice and you have the only key to your unit so you can rest assured that you are the only person with access. If your office doesn’t have security fencing or CCTV systems, your items will be much safer in one of our commercial storage units.

During the last budget the Government put a bill through parliament to add V.A.T. to self storage. The whole industry was totally caught unawares. This was there along with the now infamous ‘pasty tax’ which took much more prominence because of the amount of people it effected. Unfortunately with self storage, it is not something that the public require all the time (wish that it was !!), and is only a necessity when the situation arises. If you happen to be a business,  then you can claim the V.A.T. back if you are registered. As per usual, it will be the man in the street that will pick up the bill…. We did fight this, of course we did, through the Self Storage Association, but to no avail, and so from October 1st, we will have to charge it. Of course, this will make some customers evaluate two things : 1. is it worth while staying in store and 2. am I paying too much where I am ?  The first question only the client can answer, the second, well, we at Arrows are, as a rule, cheaper than any other storage company in Bletchley and Milton Keynes, so where we might expect to lose some customers, we would also hope to gain some as well. Time will tell of course…..

Space….the final frontier…

                        thank you for your prompt quote, both on landline and this e-mail.
I’m yet trying to find other solutions to my kayak storage need, eg constructing some fixed shelter or using a tarpaulin in my back yard, which would be much cheaper than formal storage space. However it’s good to know that you could allocate space in your ex-wind tunnel and I  appreciate that you’ve kindly managed to squeeze down the price a bit.
 Could we just leave it for the time being and I may yet come back to you?
      I well remember your using superb storage service when I first moved to Milton Keynes from North Wales in 2002; especially the Arrows’  team classic racing car in the foyer, stories of your fearless female racing partner (Rosemary?) and your extra service of watering all my large garden pot plants until I was ready to move them to my new home in Stony Stratford. So thank you again for this service.

Being a musician I often hear songs on the radio, and think what a good song to cover in my band, and it got me thinking about a theme tune for our storage company here at  Arrows….and then out of the blue, good old Radio Two came up with my answer. The Travelling Wilbury’s, what a great band, sadly we have lost the Big O and George H, but a great theme tune for us would be their track ‘Cool Dry Place’. I will probably get in trouble if I quote all the lyrics but here’s just a sample….’Some have sentimental value that, Cannot be erased, Go store it in a cool dry place’ ….and then the lyric goes onto ‘We got solids and acoustics,And some from flowered board,And some are trimmed in leather,And some are made with gourds,There’s organs and trombones,And reverbs we can use,Lots of dx-7s….’

Well, that got me thinking about having a room to store musical instruments and amplifiers etc. As it would be a communial room to make it cost effective, it would need to be managed very carefully, but let’s put it out there….as  a musician myself, I can see the value in providing this kind of service….what do you think ???
