Useful advice for packaging your belongings:
Keep your appliances safe whilst in storage:
- Defrost your refrigerators/freezers, empty all water and allow to dry.
- Ensure your washing machine and dishwasher is drained of water and dry.
- Dry the inside of your fridge and freezer to avoid mould.
- Wedge refrigerator/freezer doors open to allow air to circulate.
- Empty your vacuum cleaner.
Ways to keep your valuables safe:
- Pack paper at the bottom of cartons and on top.
- Wrap each individual item in newspaper and tissue.
- Pack heavier pieces at the bottom with lighter ones on top.
- Plates and dishes are safer if packaged on their edge rather than flat.
Protect your books when in storage:
- Pack flat on top of one another.
- Do not overload the boxes.
- Pack the top of the box with some lighter items.
Packaging your furniture:
- Disassemble beds and tables ensuring that table legs are wrapped in paper.
- Pack items into drawers.
- Place a plastic or cardboard sheet on the floor of your unit.
- Stand mattresses and sofas on their ends.
Advice and tips whilst in storage:
- Do NOT store perishable items such as food or plants.
- Remember to leave any personal papers or documents within easy reach.
- You may need tax information, vehicle documents or passport etc. whilst in storage.
- Do NOT store paint, paint thinners or any flammable liquids as they can leak, and do smell and will damage your goods as well as other customers goods.
